I fence. Well to be clear I have fenced, I enjoy fencing, but have not actually gone to the fencing school in over 4 years so i would not add it to my list of activities.
So to my surprise (and amusement) my 5 year old son asks me, “Daddy can you teach me to fence”. What? Like with a sword? “Yes dad, with a sword”.
Now I realize this is Star Wars talking, not a desire to re-live the battle from Princess Bride (god I love that movie, and yes you know where that link goes to).
So with any luck and patience I will get to write about his progress and interest level; he will be bummed when he finds out he does not get to hold a foil for quite a long time while he works out his foot work.
As a side note my 9 year old daughter was also in the car at the time. I asked her if she too would like to learn. Her response “What me? Do I have too? Yeah ok.”. Yeah, I don’t think she will make it past the first lesson of foot work when she could be watching TV.
