We are wrapping up our vacation to Washington. We came to visit family and do some snowboarding. We planned on playing in the snow at least 2-3 days during the trip. On the first morning we headed out to Snoqualmie. We made it about half way (only 30 miles) before we were turned around by state police.
I had checked the snow report the night before and while there was rain at the base of the mountain; no snow. I figured, no problem. No snow = No chains so we are in good shape. I had not even thought rain would be an issue. After being turned around we stopped at North Bend to ask a sheriff for any alternate routes. He said drive to Oregon. Good sense of humor. In North Bend the river was already flooding the local streets and looked very close to going over its banks into the local homes.
Here is a clip for Washington’s Department of Transportation web site: “rising temperatures and inches of rainfall combined to create flooding, mudslides, rock slides and avalanches. More than 60 state highways were closed at one time, including all of the mountain passes through the Washington Cascades”. Turns out our trip coincided with a historic storm. Awesome timing!
Some pictures from their flicker account.

I am guessing we are not going to do any snowboarding this trip but pretty hard to complain when folks are getting there homes flooded. We will just be happy to visit with family.

Wow, those pictures are amazing. You are not far from us. We are about 20 minutes south of North Bend and luckily we live up on a hill and have not had any flooding near us. I feel bad for all of the people who have had their homes damaged from the floods.
