I recently bought my first turntable. Period. Closing in on 40 and never bought one.
I went in with a coworker and we split the cost of $50.00 and bought it off of woot.

A better picture is here.
Between my wife and myself we probably have about 70 records. Most of them we also have the MP3’s for. So a turntable that can record songs and convert them to MP3’s with all the hiss and skips probably seems pretty silly.
But there are some very noteworthy exceptions.
There are a couple of old blues LPs. One of my favorites is a Rhythm and Blues Christmas LP.
I also have a number of 78 records. These were my grandfather’s. They appear to be from the late 1930’s- mid 1950’s. I have been lugging them around for over 15 years and have never heard them. They are very handsome and remind me of a time of great cars and great Americanism.
Some shots of the one I was most interested in…
Perfidia is one of my all time favorite songs, and here it was, a recording over 50 years old, my grandfather used to listen to. Awesome.
I played a little with the recording application. Lets say the first attempt here is pretty poor but it is a starting point.
Nat Brandwynne’s Perfidia from 78
If I get it down (get rid of the hiss / pop, remember not to type on the keyboard during the recording…) I will post the rest of the songs.
Listing to these songs is forcing me to end with a picture of the best car I ever owned. Some day I hope to replace it.
