Okay, I won’t look this time

Buddy was famous in our circle for a number of things, but #1 was his ability to steal food right from under someones nose. It was pretty hard to go a single BBQ or dinner party where someone did not get at least a part of there meal stolen by our 75lbs Yellow Labrador. When he was about 2 years old we had a couple over for dinner. We served spaghetti. The four of us were sitting at the table, the door bell rang and I walked over to open the door (one bedroom condo so it was a short walk). For a brief moment everyone turned to look at who was there. In the next moment Buddy had his head on the table sideways and ate the entire plate of food in about 3 quick gulps from one of our unsuspecting guests. His best event was on a Memorial weekend BBQ. We counted at least 7 cheeseburgers stolen (They were his favorite target). In the last year it has gotten harder for him to pull off his normal thievery; but he occasionally would surprise us.

He lived with us; in our house, sometimes on our bed or couch when he could, as a part of our family, and always in our hearts for the last 14 years. Today we said goodbye to one of our greatest friends.

My favorite picture of him:

Here is some from today:

I had purchased two cheese burgers at my daughter request. We sat in the back of SUV, looking at the grass. I fed him his cheese burger first.

Then I opened my wrapper and casually looked the other way so he could steal one last one from me.

Some Other Favorites:

I love this series. He just stands there being tortured by our son. I felt like he was pleading with me to make him stop.

Those are great pics– RIP Hamburgler…

  2. Aw, that’s sad. I’m sorry to hear. He was so white! Our golden lab is only 9 month-ish. This post of yours made me laugh (Izzy is also talented at stealing food) and made me not want to feed her grapes and chocolate in the hopes that she’ll die. Wait– did I just say that? Pretend I didn’t.
